Sam Bird, the reigning LMP2 World Endurance Championship champion, has secured a factory Ferrari drive for the 2016 season.

The move comes after an LMP1 test with Toyota in Bahrain after the season ended.

Bird has previous experience with AF Corse in WEC, having made two appearances for them in 2014. He scored a podium at the season-opening Six Hours of Silverstone.

The Brit, who also drives for DS Virgin Racing in the Formula E series, will line-up with Davide Rigon as AF Corse shuffles its line-up.

Rigon’s former partner in the #71 car, James Calado, moves to the #51 car alongside Gianmaria Bruni. Toni Vilander moves to IMSA for the season, alongside ex-Formula One driver Giancarlo Fisichella.

Calado is still searching for a WEC win, despite visiting the podium 10 times.
